Design Your Course
As you prepare for remote instruction, start early by adapting to the new modality and designing a course that is:
- Learner-centered: Structure the course around on the learning goals and what students will expect to gain and learn from taking your course. Be clear about the learning objectives, expectations, and course logistics from the start of the quarter.
- Engaging: Foster a positive learning environment and invite students to participate in peer-to-peer activities, interactive and self-paced learning experiences, and open discussions.
- Inclusive: Communicate flexibility and inclusivity by ensuring that all course materials and activities are accessible, representive, diverse, and adaptable to the student's learning environment.
- Meaningful: Build in activities that are meaningful and effective. Be careful not to overload you or your students with extraneous work.
- Transformative: Think about how this new modality can transform your course and extend your classroom teaching by taking advantage of the environment, tools, and various experiences of your students.
